Adams Co. detention officer resigns after arrest

An Adams County jailer ended up in jail Wednesday after he was arrested by Vidalia, La., police.

Brandon Lee Gardner, a detention officer at the Adams County jail, was arrested at 2:50 a.m. Wednesday and charged with DUI first offense, reckless operation of a vehicle, criminal damage to property, aggravated flight from an officer and battery of an officer, according to a statement from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

Gardner has resigned from his position with the sheriff’s office. He had worked at the jail for the last nine months, according to the sheriff’s office.

"I have called [Vidalia] Chief Arthur Lewis and apologized on behalf of the Adams County Sheriff's Office for the conduct unbecoming an officer by Brandon Gardner. Such actions will not be tolerated,” said Adams County Sheriff Chuck Mayfield.
